Dates for the above tours will be discussed with the membership at the September Meeting.

Lady’s Island Garden Club Meetings Are Held on the 1st Thursday of the Month, at 9:30 AM except for January and it is on

Bulb Planting in the South
Carol Guedalia of “The Greenery” on Hilton Head will speak on the bulbs that do best in our Low Country environment.  What their
pests are and how to plant and fertilize for the best of shows.   Also we will be discussing the Daffodil Project which our club will be
planting at the Lady’s Island Middle School.

This is the Club’s 36th annual Thanksgiving workshop. Genevieve Silvear, Chairperson for this event, will lead our crafty ladies
in designing unique tray favors for area hospitals and residential care facilities.

Holiday Silent Auction Fund Raiser
This popular annual celebration will have each member bringing a craft or other items worth about $20 for the silent auction.  If
you are unable to attend this meeting you will be requested to donate a check to LIGC for $20 to help defray costs of club projects.  Members are also requested to bring a selection of  new sleep apparel for a boy or girl for the CAPA Christmas Event.  And/or a donation of a children’s book for the ‘Books for Babies’ project which is new for our club this year.  Your caller will have further details on this prior to the meeting.

Floral Arranging for the Best Effect
Claire Spengler, Accredited SC State Flower Show Judge, will lead a hands on floral arranging class with special hints for long lasting arrangements that compliment the surroundings and reinforce the themes when designing a floral piece.  Further information about
this class will be provided prior to the meeting.

"Snakes of the Low Country"
Debby Way of the Beaufort Soil & Water Conservation District will give an informative talk on the snakes that inhabit our low
country environment.   She will have a ‘friend‘ with her, plus pictures of those that are not.  This meeting is well worth attending,
especially as we may have these creatures in our gardens from time to time.

Hoping for Hostas
A lovely accent plant in the garden, one which deer admire tremendously, much to the gardener’s chagrin, the hosta comes in an
abundance of sizes and color combinations.  At this meeting “Shady Characters” of Aiken will teach us the intimate secrets of hosta
growing, propagation and pitfalls of this titan in our gardens.  They will bring plants for us to purchase for our Low Country gardens.

Annual Business Meeting & Luncheon
Installation of Officers
This is our Club’s Annual Meeting as required by our By-Laws. Officer’s reports will be given and a new slate of officers for the
upcoming year will be presented and voted on. We will need two-thirds majority (quorum) to fulfill By-Law requirements.
Therefore, it is imperative that all members attend this meeting, or be prepared to vote by proxy ahead of time.  Installation
of officers will also take place at this time.

Hostesses:

Marsh Walking
We will be taking a very informative tour on the Marsh Board Walk of “The Sands” on Port Royal Sound.  Led by our own Pam
Floyd, LIGC President and a Master Naturalist, we will learn about the amazing world of the marsh, so closely linked to our every
day lives here in our little corner of the Low Country.

After the walk we will have a refreshing luncheon at Moondoggies  just up the street off Paris Avenue in Port Royal.

Birdwatching 101
We see them flitting around the yard, we provide them with water and food and a place to nest perhaps, but do we really know
our feathered friends all that well.  Today we’ll learn from an area Master Naturalist the things they never taught us in school about
these marvelous creatures that  provide us endless hours of enjoyment.  We will focus on marginal marsh birds and their habitats as
these are unique to the Low Country environs.  Migratory and ‘stay at home’ birds will also be discussed.
